Who’s ready for a fiesta?! I honestly can’t believe we’re already into the month of May. I’m a little late for Cinco De Mayo but there are still 34 Taco Tuesday’s left in the year! I think that’s reason enough to celebrate with a little cactus DIY.

Materials Needed:

  • Platinum 6 Machine
  • Cactus Contour Die
  • Corrugated cardboard
  • Wood circles (acts as base to hold the cactus)
  • Glue gun
  • Green paint
  • Striped ribbon (I cut the ribbon and added it to the hats for more color)
  • Mini sombreros
  • Mini black mustaches (I cut mine out of paper)
  • Food labels/name cards

Instructions:

  1. Cut cardboard in half (can fit 2 cactus per sheet)
  2. Tape cardboard, ridges down, onto the cactus die (I just like to make sure it stays in place). You can see how I taped it diagonally so the ridges would be straight once the cactus was standing up
  3. Run the die through the machine
  4. Paint cactus and wood circles green – the cardboard will get a little soft with the wet paint but stiffens back up as it dries
  5. Glue cactus to wood circle
  6. Glue on mustache, sombrero and tag!

So easy, but so festive! I love using the cardboard for material because it looks like a real cactus with the ridges! I have them shown as food labels but next fiesta I throw, I’m definitely putting these little guys on the kids table as place settings.

Love this?! Pin for later…

I’m a stay at home mum, and an aspiring photographer. I love taking care of my home and my family, and I also adore photography. Apart from being a mummy (/nurse/teacher/confidant am I right?), I also write on this blog full time, and I’m working towards opening a photo studio (fingers crossed!)
