We’re half way through the summer holidays, and most of us are starting to put together our kids’ school supplies. So, why not consider a couple of fun DIY projects to do with your kids to get them excited about starting school? And let’s face it, a school supplies DIY project is not only fun, it can also save you a lot of cash! What with buying new school shoes, backpacks, uniforms, etc., it’s always nice to be able to save something here and there! I hope this list will inspire you and you too will have a go at trying some of them. Your kids will definitely enjoy doing these awesome crafts!

1. Reusable Snack Bags

These are very easy to make, and you’ll definitely be using them for after school snacks or for you kids to take to school! Follow the step by step tutorial at Wholefully.

2. Lunch Box Cloth Napkins

I for one couldn’t find cloth napkins which I liked, so I ended up buying those boring chequered ones.. I will definitely be trying these out this year! Check out the simple tutorial from Buggy and Buddy.

3. No-Sew Coloured Pencil Roll

This project is perfect for keeping those pencil colours organised (there’s also a crayon version available here!). And what’s ever better is that you don’t need to use your sewing machine for this one! Follow the tutorial at Small & Friendly.

4. DIY Pencil Case

This is the cutest ‘pencil’ pencil case! Check out the tutorial at Gwenny Penny.

5. Personalised Notebook

These DIY notebooks are pretty awesome, and not just for the kids either! Your little ones can choose their favourite patterned paper too! Try it out via Momtastic.

6. Washi Tape Pencils

Cos pencils don’t need to look so boring! This project will take less than 5 minutes! Check it out at The Pink Doormat.

7. Backpack Tags

It’s not the first time two kids in one class have the same backpack. By doing this DIY backpack tag, you make sure your kids bring back their backpack home! Follow the tutorial over at Kids Activities Blog.

8. Whiteboard Calendar

I have one just like this in the kitchen, and I love it! Check out the easy tutorial at Now That’s Pretty.

9. Personalised Labels

We all know the large amounts of labels we use throughout the scholastic year! Why not try printing them out yourself.. It might save you some extra cash! Download the printables at Lia Griffith.

10. DIY Bookmarks

These bookmarks are super cute and very easy to make! Your little ones will love making and using them! Check out the adorable bow bookmark at Sugar Bee Crafts and the monster bookmarks at Instuctables.

11. Chalkboard Notebook

I love a chalkboard DIY project! Check this one out at Warm Hot Chocolate.

12. Rainbow Watercolour Backpack

You don’t necessarily need to buy an expensive backpack for it to be unique or one of a kind. Actually, doing something like this DIY project from Momtastic will definitely make your child’s backpack unique!

13. Homework Caddy

This caddy is perfect for staying organised during homework time. Have a look over at Laura’s Crafty Life.

14. DIY Art Apron

Isn’t it the cutest? And it’s really not that hard to make! Go to The DIY Mommy to follow the step by step tutorial.

I’m a stay at home mum, and an aspiring photographer. I love taking care of my home and my family, and I also adore photography. Apart from being a mummy (/nurse/teacher/confidant am I right?), I also write on this blog full time, and I’m working towards opening a photo studio (fingers crossed!)
